Top 5 Things Your Gym Bag Should Have

- Ankle Straps by Hawk Sports for the cable machine. These are incredibly versatile and ohhh so comfortably padded.Whenever I had to work out glutes and they gym would not provide something similar to this, I had to use the handle pulley, but it is so awkward to put it through or around your shoe. I waste time focusing on keeping the handle around my foot rather than truly engaging my glutes. I use these ankle straps for a variation of glute and abdominal exercises as well as shoulders. Stay tuned for a future post on My Top 10 Exercises to Trim, Tone and Tighten your Lower body.
- The Orb Ball by Pro-Tec Athletics. This little orb ball is a lifesaver!! I use it before and after my workouts to roll out those tight knots all over my muscles. It is also the perfect travel size plus my toddler thinks it’s a ball toy. It is firm enough to give yourself a deep massage. Even if you don’t use it for the gym, just having it around the office is great for anyone that needs to work on sore and tender muscles. Again, compact and easy to get to those hard to reach areas unlike a foam roller. Plus you can’t really carry a foam roller around everywhere can you?
- Dry Hand by Nelson Sport. I don’t know about you, but I do have sweaty hands on top of a weak grip. I love this dry chalk because most gyms do not allow chalk, and this looks like hand sanitizer in disguise. This will help knock of the sweaty palms and help you grip that bar for that deadweight or pull-ups better than ever!
- Limm Resistance Loop Exercise Bands. These bands are incorporated in pretty much every superset I do. The bands are made with 100% natural latex so if you are allergic to latex I will provide another great alternative at the end of the post. So far these have lasted me for four years and the elasticity is still going strong. I have used these everyday and they still have not torn, so win win for the customer.
- Venuzor Waist Trainer Belt for Women. The most important job the waist trainer does, is it teachers you to engage your abdominals. The waist trainer does not magically trim your waist. Maintaining a slim waist is done by your consistency in diet and exercise. However, the waist trainer does help you cue to “pull in” when you are lifting and doin cardio as well as when your not wearing it. Having a properly engaged core reduces your chances of injury during a lift. I still make sure on my “low load lift days,” I don’t wear it or if I do, I don’t wear it super tight to give my abdominals an opportunity to fully engage without the help of the corset compression. This is again to make sure you do not neglect your abdominals simply because you are wearing a band. I will have another post related to how diaphragmatic breathing healed my postpartum Diastasis Recti. This band is also awesome because it does not die in the washing machine after one wash unlike other velcro bands.
